Shifting from Rudderless to Radiant… 3 steps to Soulful Living

There are times in my life, like right now, when I am so caught up in my day-to-day never ending to-do list, that I feel like a robot.  Get up.  Brush teeth. Get kids ready for school.  Get dressed.  Tackle daily list. Make dinner. Watch TV. Sleep.  Rinse. Repeat. And you know what is missing in there?

Living.

And not just LIVING….. SOULFUL LIVING. 

So, what does that mean exactly?  Well, when we are immersed in Soulful Living we feel more vibrant and alive.  We feel more infused with passion and purpose.  We radiate joy and inner love of self.

And IT. IS. AWESOME.

I know what you are thinking, “But LISA, I am too damn busy to do anything more! Now you’re going to tell me to go to Kundalini yoga, or go to a mountain retreat and meditate, or study a new spiritual practice. I don’t have time for all that!!!”  (begins to hyperventilate)

What if I told you that inside you you have the innate ability to live with vibrant passion and purpose, in complete alignment with your soul’s mission in this life time, fully connected to spirit or your intuition, without having to do anything drastic or cumbersome.  What would that mean to you?

Here are three things you can do TODAY to shift from rudderless to radiant:

1.  Start paying attention to your breath:  Yeah, I know, you’ve heard this all before, meditation is awesome, it can sculpt your brain into some kind of zen master in only 20 minutes a day… (though it IS awesome, AND physically DOES change your brain for the better) this is not what I am talking about, because I am not looking at adding MORE to your already busy life.  I am talking about just with intention, every once in awhile just pay attention to your breathing as it goes in and out.  And only focus on that, even for just one or two breaths.  I sometimes spend a day doing this at every single set of lights I stop at.  While I am waiting, I just shift my awareness to my breath. That’s it.  This kind of awareness, even in tiny bursts, disengages your sympathetic nervous system and takes you out of flight or flight mode and engages your parasympathetic nervous system – also known as rest and digest.  Even if you ONLY ever did THIS, it would be amazing the benefits it would bring to your life and connect you more deeply to your inner essential self.

2.  Start paying attention to your physical body in space:  This is connected to the first one, and you can easily do these at the same time, or at the very least side-by-side.  I do this one at lights too, sometimes, I suddenly shift my focus to the feeling of the steering wheel in my hands, and my butt in the seat.  I pay attention to the air in the car, is it warm or hot.  Where is my tongue resting in my mouth?  I gently straighten my back and hold that posture.  All of these things do the same as number one, takes you out of STRESS MODE and puts you in ZEN MODE.  Doing this also engages your right brain, which is connected to your sense of self and other, your connection to ALL THINGS, and creativity. These concepts will awaken passion and purpose because suddenly your inner noise mind chatter will take a back seat, and just allow this delicious feeling of peaceful contentment to flow.  This is a big part of what most people identify as SOULFUL LIVING.

3.  Pay attention to nature around you.. trees and animals:  This is also a SUPER easy one.  And I also do this while driving around in my car.  Geez, can you tell I practically LIVE in my car whilst driving kids around?  GAWD.  ANYway, when I shift my attention to the trees as I am driving by in my car, I reach out with my gratitude, and I admire their beauty in that fleet of a moment.  I notice how they are proudly standing, firmly planted, I might notice how the wind is rustling their leaves.  Or I might see a bird on my walk to my daughter’s school. and I shift my attention completely to that bird.  I imagine what it is like to see the world through its eyes, from the air, or pecking around on the ground.  I imagine truly feeling what it is like to be this incredible animal! Doing these things reminds us regularly that WE ARE ALL INTERCONNECTED to ALL LIVING THINGS on the planet.  This puts our mind into that AWE space, where we are reminded of our place in the Universe.  There is something profoundly beautiful about taking these fleeting moments throughout our day to revel in these feelings and thoughts.

Soulful living truly has the ability to change your life forever, and transform the way to relate to the world and others.
