Take time out of each and every day that is just for you. You and the cards.
Spending time studying tarot, doing readings for yourself and your spirit, or doing a guided meditation of the Majors. However you decide to do it, being with tarot is like giving a gift to yourself.
When I first started playing around with the cards twenty + years ago, I thought they were just for giggling and doing spreads for me and my friends. But now I have learned the power that is behind the tarot, and the most surprising and amazing quality? How they constantly give back to me as I continue to work with them for myself.
You will get insight into your situations that you have never had before. You will understand yourself in a way that you never have before. You will understand your hidden agendas, your true deep-down-where-nobody-can-see motivations for your life. You will be able to then clearly make the best decisions as opportunities and situations come your way because after knowing yourself, you will then understand yourself and be able to make decisions based on this new knowledge.
So f-ing cool.
Bust through your B.S. lens
So, for example, I was feeling very frustrated and depressed a few weeks ago, I was in a pity pot poor me, “I can’t do anything because I feel bogged down with household responsibilities.” ANYway, it was super unpleasant. At the same time I was working through some meditations on the Major Arcana and started with The Fool. In a meditation you actually “meet” the person depicted on the card, so in this case, I saw the Fool in front of me, all young and excited, full of the zest for life and adventure, about to take that big giant leap into the unknown awesomeness of his life with his little Hobo Joe bag on his shoulder and that little dog at his heels. He looked so happy. So exhilarated.
And I wanted to punch him in the face and throw him off the cliff.
Why? Well, in that meditation state I actually got tears in my eyes. my subconscious mind had been working through all kinds of emotional issues about where I was at in my life , and it also recognized I was feeling trapped by my household commitments and framework that I created. It also recognized that I had a lust for freedom and adventure and living out creatively, like I did when I went to film school, and had my whole future ahead of me. I was feeling like I was nearing the end of my awesome life and vision I had for myself, and just there to support my kids and my husband in fulfilling their own amazing life dreams.
Within the meditation as I approached the fool, my subconscious mind was “YAY! I finally get to tell her how she is feeling and she will be able to feel it for herself!”
Which is exactly what happened.
After I came out of the meditation, I had a complete epiphany, and have not looked at my circumstances the same way again E-V-E-R.
I know now that I was not living my OWN life to its truest potential, for lots of reason, and that that was MY OWN doing, and that I just had to reframe my thinking to accommodate this new me I had uncovered. Or more precisely, the real me that was always there.
What a relief! And what a GIFT.
So, what’s in it for you?
You will have a new perspective, confidence in your decisions, trust in your motivations, living your life YOUR WAY as authentically you.
Scientists say that our lives are being run by the 90% of our brain that is our subconscious mind. Only 10% of our brain is actually actively consciously making decisions, but based on the years of memories, feelings, and information that has been stored in our subconscious mind.
Do you ever react to something in a way where you were like, “OMG, WHY DID I GET THAT MAD? UPSET? SAD? SCARED? In other circumstances, or with another person I would have been ‘meh’, but now? In that moment?”
Your unconscious mind was just triggered.
This is your subconscious mind over-riding your very smart brain and taking over how you are perceiving what is happening in that situation.
Scary shit.
Giving yourself the gift of time with tarot, will help you to be more self aware in every moment. You will understand yourself better, and be able to make decisions based on this new knowledge of yourself.
Take sometime today and pull any card from the Majors, start anywhere, it doesn’t matter. Find a quiet spot in your home and take a few relaxing breaths while gazing at the image on the card. You don’t have to memorize the details, just let your mind take it all in. When you are ready, close your eyes and imagine the card getting bigger until you are able to step right into the scene. If there is a person in the scene, interact with them, ask them if they have a message for you. Feel the energy of them and your surroundings. Once you feel you have gotten all of the messages, mindfully begin to feel your feet on the floor, or your back on the couch or bed you are lying on. Wiggle your fingers and toes and slowly open your eyes.
What did you feel? What did you learn? Share in the comments if you had any ah ha moments!
